Over the holiday, I spent a week in Jamaica with family at a beautiful beach resort. It was totally relaxing. (That happens when your kids get a little older and there are cousins around to swim with them in the ocean so you and your husband can actually chillax). The highlight of my trip was the following exchange, which took place one day as I was meandering from my beach chair to the ladies’ room:
Young hot Jamaican dude (excitedly yells): Oh my god, it’s you! I can’t believe it. I knew I knew you from somewhere.
I quickly look to my left and right to see what celebrity this man is talking to. No one there but me.
Young hot Jamaican dude: You, the fitness momma. I love you! Oh my god, I can’t believe you’re here.
Me (confused and baffled): Hold on. I need to pee. I’m coming right back.
I go to the bathroom and quickly return. Young hot Jamaican dude shows me his iPhone that is playing the video from my Cafemom You Tube series.
Me (smiling and realizing that I am having a quasi-celebrity moment): How the heck do you know about a workout video for moms?
Young, hot Jamaican dude: I am a fitness instructor here and I was looking online for new moves. I found your videos. I love this move (showing me a side leg lift). I’m so excited to meet you.
So my friends, it turns out that though folks in Brooklyn have not been terribly excited to see me, I am quite the celebrity in Jamaica, Mon.
